Music, Song, & Dance Workshops

Scroll down for this year’s schedule – click on a title to see a its description and instructor information.

(NEW SCHEDULE FORMAT!) Lark Camp’s hour-long workshops are organized into seven periods. They start at 9:30 am in each camp, and there is a “passing-time” of fifteen minutes between periods 1 and 2, and between 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Between periods 2 and 3, there is a 45-minute “lunch passing-time”. Consult the shuttle schedule to understand what workshops you’ll be able to travel to in the three camps.

Workshop times:

  • Period 1: 9:30 – 10:30
  • Period 2: 10:45 – 11:45
  • Period 3: 12:30 – 1:30
  • Period 4: 1:45 – 2:45
  • Period 5: 3:00 – 4:00
  • Period 6: 4:15 – 5:15
  • Period 7: 5:30 – 6:30

PLEASE NOTE: Our list of instructors and workshops is always subject to change.

Choosing Workshops

Our workshops vary by genre, instrument, skill level – and location. Students may attend as many or few workshops as they wish – simply show up in the correct location at the correct time. If you are new to Lark Camp, you are welcome to drop into several workshops the first day to better understand what suits you. The workshop descriptions will tell which are repertoire/tune workshops; dropping in and out of these over the course of the week is fine. Other workshops are continuous, building on previous days’ work. (NOTE: If you are only attending the first or second half of camp, you will be taking partial workshops.)

All of our voice and dance workshops are geared for people with no prior experience. For instrumental workshops, if you have basic proficiency with your instrument, you’ll be fine attending workshops geared for intermediate or advanced levels, but feel free to investigate any workshop to discover what level is best for you – and there are plenty of beginning workshops. In a few cases, there are opportunities for individual lesson time. Check the descriptions or just ask instructors what they offer!

Workshops for Kids

Most kids’ workshops are offered in Camp One, and include instrument-making, art projects, and a wonderful Kids’ Play that is rehearsed, costumed, and performed on the last night of camp. There are workshops in other camps that are kid friendly; for example, the Zimbabwean marimba workshops are popular with all ages. If your older child or teen is reasonably proficient on an instrument, they are welcome to attend any workshop. The Mendocino Woodlands Camp Association also offers environmental education programs for children. Please remember that as a parent or guardian, you are expected to supervise any child or minor you are responsible for.
